Spindle is an Eclipse plug-in that makes it easier to create, modify and debug Tapestry applications. Spindle can generate a skeleton Tapestry application, help you edit it with Tapestry-aware XML editors, catch common errors, and, when combined with Jetty Launcher, allow you to debug your Tapestry applications within Eclipse as well.

Installing this plugin

This plugin is not shipped in any distribution. You must manually install it on an EasyEclipse distribution.

The dependent plugin Eclipse Java Development Tools must be present in the EasyEclipse distribution you use, or must be installed separately.

To use this plugin, you need Tapestry Framework.

Getting started

Help is available for this plugin, in the Help > Help Contents menu in EasyEclipse.

You can start using Spindle by creating a Tapestry project, using New > Project, then Tapestry > Tapestry Web Project. Give your project a name, and, once created, edit the context/WEB-INF/Home.html file to add some text, such as Hello, World!.

To run the project, a good solution is to install Jetty Launcher. Follow its Getting Started to get Jetty Launcher configured. In the Run Configuration dialog, you must put the value context in the webapp root field. The application should be accessible on http://localhost:8080/app and should show the text you entered in the Home.html page.

You can then create more pages, using the New > Others... file menu, then Tapestry > Tapestry Component or Tapestry > Tapestry Page.
